Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026 · DiscVault beta

DiscVault is local-first. Your collection — titles, editions, copies, notes, photos, watch history and stats — is stored only in a database on your own device. There is no DiscVault account, and that data is never uploaded to us or anyone else.

What leaves your device

The app only makes network requests for these specific, user-driven purposes:

  • Movie metadata (TMDB). When you scan or search for a film, DiscVault asks The Movie Database for the cover, cast, runtime and synopsis, using a free API key that you provide. Your request goes directly from your device to TMDB.
  • Barcode lookup (UPCItemDB). When you scan a barcode, the number is sent to UPCItemDB to resolve the product title. Scanned barcodes are cached on your device so each is only ever looked up once.
  • Beta unlock (optional). If you redeem a beta Pro code, the app sends that code and a randomly generated install identifier to our license server purely to validate the code. We do not collect your name, email, or any other personal information.

What we collect

Nothing. DiscVault contains no analytics, no advertising, no crash-reporting SDKs, and no tracking. We have no servers that store your collection and no way to see it.

Permissions

  • Camera — used solely to scan the barcodes on your disc cases. No images from scanning are stored or transmitted.
  • Photos — only if you choose to attach a photo of your own case or shelf. Those photos stay on your device.

Your data, your control

You can export your entire collection to CSV or a JSON backup at any time from Settings, and you can delete everything by clearing the app's data or uninstalling. Because the data lives on your device, uninstalling removes it permanently.

Children

DiscVault is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal data from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page.
